This is what My Friend looks like, the one I first mistook for Selph.
He's the one who introduced me to the FireFly Charmer, and my biggest help so far in the search for Selph.
He's in deep thought in this picture, he's usually like that. Makes me wonder what he's thinking about... I'm just glad to have him with me as we search.

Dream Trek III: The Search For Selph. Coming soon to a theater near you. XD
Seriously, though, you have me interested. Are you looking for your world's incarnation of the Self archetype, or are you looking for the entity named Selph? They're usually the same, but sometimes I've heard of people finding one and not the other.

Anyway... I'm looking for the entity named Selph. 'The maren that never was' You know that Selph. And the Self archetype? What do you mean by that? I never heard someone use that term exactly.

I should totally draw that now. I probably won't unless I am pestered, though, so I'm counting on you to do that part. XD
Okay, let me explain. The Self archetype is from Jung's research. He identified the archetype as being a personification of everything you are, including your subconscious mind. That means, if you meet your Self in a dream, you are meeting absolutely all of you, not just the small parts that you're familiar with. I personally interpret that to mean you're meeting a more "whole" version of yourself, and in my case it's the best possible version of me.
As for the "Nightmaren that never was," he's based on the Jung archetype as well. I'm not entirely sure quite how Naka was planning to work in the archetype in the actual character, but I think perhaps it works out better this way, just considering the sheer importance of the archetype in the Jungian psychological landscape.
Now, my advice to you. The being known as Selph is, in my experience, different in most dreamworlds. This is how two of them can coexist inside of a single world for a given amount of time. They each have unique histories, and unique worlds, producing unique versions of "Selph." Sometimes the appearance of a given two of them is similar -- as is the case between my Selph and the one that ~FullmetalShamanrocks has written about. The one she writes is very similar to my own in most ways, but his world is fundamentally different in quite a few ways. For instance (and I must admit this is a big one), my dreamworld is populated entirely by three factions -- the dreamers, the Demia, and the relatively few Nightmaren ('ians and Minions don't really count for squat). Hers contains no less than five separate factions -- Demia, Nightmaren, iMAGNi, dreamers, and the inhabitants of Neutral, mostly renegade Nightmaren. And yet, both worlds have Selph.
I would advise you not to look for what you would expect. If you do that, you'll get a construct. Just a puppet that happens to look like someone else's creation. Let it come to you, but ask it to do so.
Little known fact. I found my Muse by literally writing him letters. I call them my "letters to Nightopia," and what's in them is really very important to me, because it helped me find him, and it helped him find me.
